Mere Gross Incompetence is not news

While we are all concentrating on the coming Depression, an echo of times passed goes virtually unnoticed. While FEMA’s response to Ike is not the total disaster that was its response to Katrina, it has hardly reached genuine “heckuva job” levels. FEMA has avoided failure in some areas by essentially outsourcing its responsibilities to the states, such as by refusing to provide critically needed ice ; it has failed to organize distribution centers, and has been roundly criticized for other aspects of its responses, and it has kept truckers parked in their trucks for days, waiting to deliver supplies. Were this any other Administration the barely competent response to the hurricane would be news, but expectations are now so low that anything short of a complete disaster barely registers.
