Groton Dems win big-still the minority on the Town Council

This is what comes of a political environment in which it’s almost impossible to find people willing to run for office. The Groton Democrats appear to have elected all of their candidates to the Town Council and all of their candidates for the Board of Education (one Board of Ed candidate is on the edge, […]

In which I welcome John Scott to the club

There is a long and dishonorable tradition in Groton of last minute attack fliers. The GGG PAC, a local group composed of mainly affluent folks who would rather not pay their fair share of taxes, is the latest practitioner. They inserted a flier in the Mystic River Press that was delivered today, in which they […]

The GGG attacks

It has been brought to my attention that the former head of the Selfish Voters of Groton Long Point PAC has launched a broadside against John Scott in a letter to the Editor of the New London Day. It was printed on Saturday, but I hadn’t heard about it until today. Diane Marley is upset […]

I called it

This has not been such a great week in my actual professional life. You have your up weeks and your down, and this one has been a downer. So it was nice to learn from a commenter to this post on the Mel Thompson lawsuit that I got it mostly right in my analysis of […]

A lawsuit in Derby

Yesterday it came to my attention that a fellow named Mel Thompson has brought suit against a number of folks, including some bloggers. (Connecticut Bob interviews Thompson here) Apparently he was frustrated in an attempt to run for Mayor of Derby, and he has now started a federal court action. I must confess that I […]

Groton Democrats raise hundreds of dollars!

The Groton Democrats had a fairly successful fundraiser today. As I said yesterday, we held a tag sale … garage sale, whatever, at Sutton Park. We raised a decent amount of money, but it wasn’t really about the money, at least not for me. What it was about was clearing out all the stuff that […]

Better Late than never

The Groton Democrats will be holding their reasonably annual tag sale at Sutton Park starting tomorrow at around 9:00 AM. If you have something to get rid of, or if you want to pick up something you’ll always treasure, stop by.

Get Well, Liz

My wife and I were talking to Marcia Greenhalgh tonight after the Citizen Appeciation Day festivities at the Groton Senior Center, and were sorry to hear that her sister, Liz Duarte, has had some setbacks in her recovery from some recent surgery. Liz is one of the hardest working local Democrats. She is one of […]

Cold comfort, but comfort nonetheless

According to a poll commissioned by Daily Kos, Ned Lamont would handily beat Joe Lieberman today, if the voters of Connecticut had another chance to vote. Most of the shift, as you would expect, comes from the Democrats and Independents who were taken in by Lieberman. By the way, it’s hard to believe that the […]

The RTM stays

This is strictly Groton news. The Charter Revision Commission voted not to abolish the RTM. We now go to the harder work of refashioning the Charter. Of course, the overriding issue, as always, is the budget referendum. It will be interesting to see how things go on that issue.
